The annual US Comedy Awards will return in April next year, it has been announced.
Next year will only be the 2nd year of the awards show. The inaugural ceremony earlier this year saw David Letterman receiving the prestigious Johnny Carson award.
The 2012 ceremony will take place at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on the 28th April, and will air on Comedy Central in the US on the 6th May.
Reuters says “nominees for the awards will be selected by the awards’ board of directors — which includes Chris Rock, James Burrows, Don Rickles, Joan Rivers, Colbert, Stewart, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Conan O’Brien and Ray Romano”.

David Letterman has received the prestigious Johnny Carson award at the first annual US Comedy Awards devised by Comedy Central.
BBC News reports Letterman “was presented with the Johnny Carson award for comedic excellence at the event in New York”. The award is the highest honour at the ceremony. Letterman was greeted with a standing ovation when he came up to collect the award. He stood in front of the original curtain from Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show to be presented with the honour.
Other awards went to Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live) for Best Comedy Actress In Television, former Saturday Night Live regular Tina Fey won for Best Comedy Actress In Film (Date Night) and The Daily Show With Jon Stewart won for Best Late-Night Comedy Series.
