We’ve started a new petition; CNBC Europe has stopped airing full shows of The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Late Night With Conan O’Brien on weeknights. The Tonight Show With Jay Leno is now only broadcast in cut-down 30 minute editions on weeknights Monday to Friday, with the 45 minute uncut version only airing on Saturday and Sunday – whereas, before, CNBC Europe used to air the full 45 minute editions every weeknight and on the weekends. We want CNBC Europe to re-instate the old schedule. CNBC Europe have also stopped showing Late Night With Conan O’Brien on weekdays Monday to Friday – meaning we now only get 2 episodes of Conan a week (on weekends).
Full information is available at www.lateshowuk.com/petition – the Late Show With David Letterman petition is on that page as well.

We previously reported the Leno and Conan schedules being back to normal from next week, but this is not the case. The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Late Night With Conan O’Brien schedules will be changing on CNBC Europe from next week to make way for further business programming on the channel. In an email from Mr Mawditt at CNBC Europe to us, he explains “From next week, there will be some permanent changes to our late-night entertainment coverage; the changes reaffirm our primary positioning as a business news channel. We do realise that there is viewer support for our coverage of The Tonight Show and Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and we have retained elements within our schedule as we strive to improve our business programming across our key evening prime time”.

The schedule changes will come into effect from Monday – The Tonight Show With Jay Leno will air at 11pm UK time Monday to Friday, and at 8pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Tonight Show With Jay Leno will be shown in a cut-down format – down to 30 minutes, instead of the full 45 minutes – on weeknights, but the standard 45 minute version will still air on Saturdays and Sundays. Late Night With Conan O’Brien will only be shown at 8.45pm UK time on Saturday and Sunday (the full 45 minute version), and will no longer be shown on CNBC Europe on weeknights. Regarding The Tonight Show, Mr Mawditt of CNBC Europe says “The essence of the show, including Jay’s stand-up and the main guests will be preserved. This will be a different format from that shown in the last two weeks and is based on research conducted into your preferences for the show last year”.

Ex-Late Night and Late Show With David Letterman regular, Calvert DeForest, died on Monday – aged 85. Calvert went under the name of Larry “Bud” Melman when appearing on Late Night With David Letterman, and also had several appearances on the Late Show. A statement on the CBS.com/lateshow website reads;
["Everyone always wondered if Calvert was an actor playing a character, but in reality he was just himself - a genuine, modest and nice man," said Letterman. "To our staff and to our viewers, he was a beloved and valued part of our show, and we will miss him."]

Adam Sandler was asked to stand in as a last-minute replacement for David Letterman on the Tuesday edition of the Late Show this week, as Dave had to go home ill. Dave came in to work as normal for rehearsals, but felt too ill to go ahead with the taping of the show. Dave is thought to have stomach flu. This is thought to be the first time Dave has turned up at the Theatre, but been unable to go on with the show. Wednesday’s show had already been taped, so that went ahead as planned, with Dave. Thursday and Friday slots are reruns, as planned – due to basketball coverage on CBS. Adam Sandler – who brought his dog Matzoball into the guest seat – was quite funny, but he admits he had never interviewed anyone before.

The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Late Night With Conan O’Brien will be back to full 45-minute shows again from next week. Since the Summer clock changes outside of the UK a week or so ago, the shows have been cut to 30-minutes long with the NBC Nightly News being shown at 10.30pm (UK time) between the two shows. The schedules with move back to their normal slots for Jay and Conan next week - after the UK goes into British Summer Time. The Tonight Show will be on at 10pm and Conan on at 10.45pm – as normal.

As you may know, the last few weeks’ email newsletters from us have been fairly few and far between. We will now be sending out your email newsletters on weekends instead of during the week, which should mean you’ll see one in your Inbox either on a Saturday or Sunday every single week – instead of one every now and again. Sorry about the newsletter sending-out schedules recently, but we are now hopeful to bring it to you on the weekend so you can plan your viewing for the upcoming week’s worth of shows. If you’d like to signup to our email newsletters (they are completely free and you can opt-out of recieving them at any time) – which contain guest listings for all shows and any relevant news – please go to www.lateshowuk.com/email-newsletters to sign up. Thank you.
The first ever weekend newsletter will be sent out on the weekend of the 31st March to the 1st April.

News added today;
Conan and Jay on CNBC Europe
There have been some schedule changes on CNBC Europe as of this week – presumably because of the Summer Time changes in America. We hope they will change the schedule back to normal after we change to British Summer Time in a few weeks – as (with the new changes on CNBC Europe) The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Late Night With Conan O’Brien are only on for 30 minutes each – instead of the full 45 minutes. It’s thought the schedule changes have been made so CNBC can still show the NBC Nightly News live from the States. As of now, Jay is on at 10pm (UK time), the NBC Nightly News is on at 10.30pm (UK time) and Conan is on at 11pm (UK time). In our opinion, it would be better if they recorded the NBC Nightly News and aired it at it’s normal 11.30pm (UK time) slot, instead of shifting the schedules around (cutting 15 minutes of Leno and Conan every show). CNBC Europe is available on Virgin Media and Sky.
