The first guests for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night With Seth Meyers have been announced.
Will Smith and U2 will be on the first Tonight Show on Monday 17th February, and Amy Poehler will be Seth Meyers’ first guest on Late Night on Monday 24th February (coincidentally also a guest on Fallon’s final Late Night programme).
Jimmy Fallon made an appearance at the 2014 Television Critics Association winter press tour over the weekend to talk about the transition from Late Night to The Tonight Show, and when asked what it felt like to be following in the footsteps of Johnny Carson & the other legendary Tonight Show hosts he said:
“It means a lot to me. It’s surreal and it’s an honour. I don’t want to let anyone down. I want them to know I’m going to work as hard as I can. I know how much the show means. This is an important job and I’m so looking forward to it. I just want to make everyone laugh.”
Jimmy has also been in regular contact with current Tonight Show host Jay Leno in the lead up to the start of the new programme. He’s been asking Jay questions to prepare himself for the Tonight Show gig – “He said ‘You have to make your monologue longer'”.
Buzzfeed reports “all of his guests for the first three weeks of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon are already booked” and Jimmy will “bring The Tonight Show to Los Angeles a few weeks out of the year, noting it was initially tough to convince NBC to let him stay in New York, where the comedian was born and raised”.
