The Simpsons’ tribute to Letterman after retirement announcement

David Letterman on The SimpsonsThe Simpsons paid tribute to David Letterman last week, following his retirement announcement.

A quick turnaround for The Simpsons animators saw a special David Letterman couch gag in the opening titles of a recent episode of the long-running Fox cartoon.

The opening sequence shows the family stuck in a traffic jam in a New York taxi cab.

They jump out, run down the street to the Ed Sullivan Theater where the Late Show With David Letterman tapes and go in the front door through security.

They then join Letterman on the show in the guest seats (which have been turned in to the Simpsons’ classic brown couch) but Dave quickly shuns them asking them if that was all they came for. The sequence was followed by a “We’ll miss you, Dave” message:
