CBS has announced David Letterman’s final Late Show will air on Wednesday 20th May 2015.
Letterman announced his retirement on-air back in April. Stephen Colbert, who wraps up work on The Colbert Report next week (18th December), will take over the Late Show next year.
It’s not been confirmed when Colbert will make his debut on CBS but as they need to refurbish the Ed Sullivan Theater where the Late Show will stay it may be a few weeks after Dave vacates.
In statement released today (Wednesday) CBS Corporation President and CEO Leslie Moonves said:
“David Letterman has given to all of us a remarkable legacy of achievement and creative brilliance that will never be forgotten… it’s going to be tough to say goodbye, but I know we will all cherish the shows leading up to Dave’s final broadcast in May”
When Letterman retires in May 2015 he will have hosted over 6000 shows on late night TV for Late Night and the Late Show combined.
