Letterman’s birthday gift from Ricky Gervais

Letterman’s birthday gift from Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais stopped by the Late Show this week.

For Dave’s birthday he had a commemorative blue plaque installed outside the London pub he got drunk in many years ago when he visited England. The Friend At Hand pub near to where Dave stayed all those years ago is near Russell Square.

It’s an English tradition to install blue plaques at historical London locations – for example if somebody famous has lived there.

The plaque reads “David Letterman, American Talk Show Host, Got drunk here for a week”.

  1. Went to the Friend at Hand yesterday to take photo of the plaque but alas it isn’t there!

According to the English Heritage website

‘In order to be eligible for an English Heritage blue plaque, a figure must have been dead for 20 years or we must have passed the centenary of their birth, whichever is the earlier.’

There is however a circular mark on the wall where Mr Gervais had placed the plaque! A lovely thought though!
