TBS have axed Lopez Tonight after almost two years. The show will bow out with its final episode tonight, Thursday 11th August, and will not be renewed for a third season.
Lopez Tonight was moved from its original 11pm timeslot on TBS to make way for Conan O’Brien’s talk show when Conan was forced out of NBC’s The Tonight Show in 2010.
George Lopez’s talk show has since aired at midnight after Conan – something Lopez has always been willing to accept as he likes Conan and it gave him a good lead-in to his show.
TBS made the announcement yesterday and said:
“TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of Lopez Tonight… we are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air”.
The Los Angeles Times reports Lopez Tonight “had dropped 40% in viewership in its second season”.
