‘Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’ from New York “in the works”

It’s being reported by The New York Times there are plans “in the works” to bring The Tonight Show back to New York.

The Tonight Show was originally broadcast from the 30 Rock building in NYC with host Steve Allen in 1954, then Jack Paar. Johnny Carson’s era on Tonight saw the programme move to California (Burbank) in 1972 as he wanted to attract more high-profile guests.

The New York Times say the move to New York is “expected to take place by the fall of 2014 at the latest” according to executives and that “NBC has quietly begun work on a new studio in its headquarters building at 30 Rockefeller Plaza” to host The Tonight Show.

The move to NYC will coincide with Leno’s retirement (again) from The Tonight Show and the start of Jimmy Fallon’s tenure as host according to reports.
