Last Week Tonight With John Oliver premieres on HBO in the US this Sunday, 27th April.
It’s now been announced the programme will air on UK TV from the outset, with Sky Atlantic picking up the rights for it.
Sky Atlantic seems like the perfect fit for Last Week Tonight, as they have a special deal with HBO already allowing them to air popular HBO shows such as Boardwalk Empire.
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver starts on Sky Atlantic next Tuesday and will then air every Tuesday going-forwards, meaning they will show the episode that airs on HBO in America less than 48 hours later.
British-born John Oliver, formerly of The Daily Show, gained high acclaim for his tenure covering hosting duties on The Daily Show during Jon Stewart’s hiatus in 2013.
His new programme will follow in the same footsteps as The Daily Show, taking a satirical look at news, politics and current events every Sunday on HBO (Tuesday on Sky Atlantic).
It’s also thought if the show is successful it may expand to air several times a week, or in an extended timeslot.
Sky Atlantic is available in both SD and HD formats on Sky channel 108, with a +1 variant on channel 173.
